SWITCH TO SOLAR AND SAVE!

Save Money With Spray Foam Insulation

At Kosmos Solar, we have many ways to help you become more energy efficient. Our expert team of installers can put solar panel arrays on your roof or on the ground near your home to help you take advantage of solar energy. We install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for your fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles. Our solar-powered attic fans take some of the workloads off of your air conditioner, and some of the bite out of your energy bills. Another way we keep your home efficient is by installing spray foam insulation in your attic or crawlspace.

Spray foam installation is a good alternative to batt fiberglass insulation. It dramatically reduces the amount of heat loss, plugs even the tiniest holes and cracks, adds structural strength to your roof, and provides a strong sound barrier. To learn more about spray foam insulation, and to get an estimate for your home or business, call Kosmos Solar today! Our service area covers all of Dallas, Fort Worth, and the surrounding areas.

What is Spray Foam Insulation?

Spray foam contains a polymer and a foaming agent. As the name suggests, it is applied as a spray. After being sprayed, it expands up to 100 times its original volume and hardens into a solid. This allows it to fill gaps and expand and contract with the building’s movements.

Spray foam comes in open-cell and closed-cell varieties. Open-cell foam is softer and more flexible than the two. It is typically chosen for areas that are not exposed to the elements and don’t need extra support. It is also the most affordable spray foam insulation.

Closed-cell insulation is much stronger and more rigid. It provides greater insulation due to its higher density, which also makes it suitable for use as an added layer of structural support for walls and roofs. It costs more but offers the most protection against air infiltration, moisture, and sound.

Why Spray Foam?

Spray foam insulation outperforms rolled fiberglass insulation in many ways. Fiberglass traps air to slow the transfer of heat, making it a decent insulator. Spray foam insulation, especially closed cells, serves as a highly effective air, moisture, and vapor barrier. It is substantially more energy efficient than fiberglass, holds up in extremely cold conditions, and prevents air leakage.

Another factor is spray foam’s longevity. It can last more than 80 years, compared to the 10 – 25 years that are typical of fiberglass insulation. Spray foam might cost more upfront, but it can save you a lot of money on your energy bills and replacement costs.

Finally, fiberglass sheets do nothing to strengthen the structural integrity of your building. They can also become a fire hazard due to the kraft paper attached to the batts. Spray foam can add significant strength to the walls and roofs it supports. Though it needs a fire-resistant barrier, like drywall, most closed-cell foam contains fire-retardant chemicals.

Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation

When you have your insulation installed by an experienced team like Kosmos Solar, you can rest assured that everything was done right according to the industry’s best practices for workmanship and safety. Here are some of the benefits you can expect from your professionally-applied spray foam:

It Prevents Air Infiltration. Air infiltration occurs when outside air enters your home or building through gaps, holes, vents, and other openings. This can cause energy losses of up to 40%! Spray foam insulation keeps your attic sealed against air leakage by expanding to fill even the smallest gaps.

It Protects Your Roof. A layer of spray foam under your roof keeps hot sunlight at bay, much like cool roofs that are designed to maintain lower temperatures. Cool roofs come in light colors, but spray foam insulation keeps out the heat no matter what color your roof is. It also strengthens your roof’s structure, which could add years to its life.

It Supports Your HVAC System. Did you know that 56% of a home’s energy is used for cooling and heating? Spray foam insulation is so effective, you could reduce the size of your HVAC system by as much as 35% without sacrificing your comfort. It also decreases the strain on your system and could cut down your energy bills.
