Some homeowners are hesitant to commit to a different type of insulation because they just don’t know how easy it is to make the switch. Others worry about the cost of spray foam insulation, while those with finished homes or offices might think it’s too late to change their insulation once the walls have been constructed. Let’s learn more about the spray foam installation process and what you can expect during different the phases of work.
What to Expect
It all begins with a call to Kosmos Solar. Our team will schedule a time to come inspect your home or office. We can install spray foam insulation in new or finished construction.
A trained technician will inspect the area where the insulation is needed. This could be an area as large as your whole home or as small as your attic crawlspace. If you have damage to your home’s exterior that affects the underlying insulation, we will assess that spot as well.
We will provide you with an accurate written estimate for the cost of installation. Our pricing is very fair for the quality of service you receive and the quality of the materials we use.
Installing the Spray Foam Insulation. Our team will arrive on the day of installation all suited up and ready to get to work. They will cover your flooring and windows with plastic and bring in a large fan to increase air circulation. Then they will spray or inject the foam into your wall cavities. The foam expands to 100 times its original volume, effectively sealing any gaps in your walls that allow air to escape.
Some foams take 24 hours to cure, while others harden in minutes and cure in hours. Our technicians will advise you to vacate the home until the foam has finished curing. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns about the process or materials we use, we are always happy to answer!
Once everything is done, our team will clean up after themselves and leave you to enjoy your newly insulated home. As the weather changes, you will notice that you no longer need to use so much heat or air conditioning to keep your house at a comfortable temperature. Enjoy the reduced energy costs!
Spray Foam Insulation FAQ
What is spray foam and how does it work?
Spray foam insulation is made from liquid polymer compounds that are applied using a spray nozzle. As the compounds pass through the nozzle, they mix together and create a chemical reaction that causes them to rapidly expand and harden. The foam swells to fill any gaps or holes in the wall cavity, creating a strong, effective barrier of insulation.
Is spray foam insulation safe?
As long as you allow it to cure completely, it is a safe form of insulation. Curing can take anywhere from 2 hours to 24 hours, depending on the foam used. Your Kosmos Solar team member will always let you know when it’s safe to return to your home following an application.
How can you apply spray foam insulation to a finished wall?
We gain access to the wall cavity by injecting the spray foam through a small hole drilled into the wall. This requires a more careful application and a less aggressively expanding polymer compound, but it can be done. Once we’re finished, you’ll never be able to tell we worked on the wall at all.
